Irena 'Mohini'
Mihalkovich

ICCR scholarship holder and alumna in Indian Classical Dance and Theatre (Kerala Kalamandalam 2013-2018), I work across different mediums, combining performance, film, animation, puppetry and storytelling

I am Irena ‘Mohini’ Mihalkovich. I was born and raised in Belarus and am currently based in London, UK, having completed my Master's in Choreomundus: Dance Practice, Movement and Heritage (France, Norway, Hungary and the UK). I have always had a passion for telling stories, whether they are my own or those I have collected throughout my journeys. I create using an interdisciplinary approach, focusing on performance, film, narrative, and writing.

I specialise in Mohiniyattam and Bharatanatyam, two traditional Indian classical dance forms. Dance brought me to India, where I spent 10 years researching and embodying these art forms. In addition to my film and performance works, I am actively involved in teaching and mentoring, especially young people who want to explore their creativity and start their own art projects through community outreach.

I live with a complex hereditary condition, which has prompted me to seek existential answers on life and death across multiple cultures, communities, and their narratives. In my performances, I interweave the topics of femininity, trauma, death, transcendence, and spirituality.

Creative Alchemy & Facilitation

I view education as a sacred act of transmission. Whether facilitating a community ritual, teaching dance and choreography or providing one-on-one mentorship to a young artist, I strive to help one find their creative voice.

My work encompasses

  • Sacred Space Facilitation: Leading somatic workshops and participatory rituals in museums and heritage sites.

  • Creative Guidance: Mentoring emerging talent to find their unique artistic path and develop professional portfolios.

  • Somatic Lineage: Transmitting the rigorous, traditional disciplines of Mohiniyattam, Bharatanatyam, and Yoga as pathways to embodied wisdom and spiritual alignment.
